WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp features, said disconnecting the Internet would have no effect on desktop WhatsApp calling. With the advent of multi-device support in future updates, calls and messages can be made even if the phone does not have internet.

WhatsApp has been working on a multi-device support feature for a long time. What is special about this feature is that WhatsApp will work on other devices even if the primary device does not have internet. WABetaInfo has spotted this upcoming feature in the 2.21.1.1 beta version of WhatsApp.
